In the town of Pomaria, South Carolina, Bethlehem Lutheran was founded in 1816. This part of South Carolina was settled heavily by German, Swiss, and Dutch immigrants starting in the late 1700’s. Bethlehem Lutheran was the third Lutheran church established in the county. The congregation first met at Wicker’s Camp Ground and built a little log cabin. Later the current church was constructed (1822), with updates in 1942 and 1966.
This is another instance where I was photographing in the parking lot when a car pulled up. This time it was the pastor of the church. He was just stopping by for a minute, but invited me in so I went inside to snap a couple quick photos of the interior.
